As participants turned up at the credentialing center at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, organizers offered ice spikes for their shoes, along with a thick agenda, invitations to accompanying events, and Swiss chocolates. Word of advice to future participants: always take the spikes. While the well-worn paths of Davos seem clear, creating a sense of control, they are also smooth, slick, and conducive to mishap— much like the tone of the organized sessions and side conversations that took place over the next four days, as enthusiasm and certitude were de rigueur.

A few days on from the trip, a few themes stand out as relevant to the outlook for 2017 and beyond.
